We are Walk Ride GM, community group working to make walking and cycling a normal, everyday part of school travel across Greater Manchester.
With funding from the Government, we are running a pilot programme to establish and grow a coordinated network of walking and cycling buses across schools in Manchester and Trafford. Our aim is to move beyond small, isolated schemes and create a supported, connected network of routes that families can rely on - reducing car congestion around schools, improving air quality, and giving children the confidence and independence to travel actively.
To make sure our programme is making a real difference, we need quality data on how streets are being used before, during and after our busesrun. That's where you come in.
By hosting a Telraam sensor in your window, you become part of our citizen science network - helping us count and understand traffic on the streets our walking and cycling buses use. The data you collect will show us whether more children are walking and cycling, and whether traffic volumes and speeds are changing as a result of the project. Your contribution will directly shape the evidence base for how walking and cycling buses are developed across Greater Manchester and nationally.
No technical knowledge is needed. Telraam sensors are small, unobtrusive devices that sit on your windowsill and do the counting automatically — all you need is a window with an unobstructed view facing the street.
This pilot is being delivered with our partners at Manchester City Council and Trafford Council. This means we are looking for volunteers who live in the borough of Trafford and city of Manchester. Please refer to the map below to check if your postcode matches before applying.

Help us build safer, quieter streets for children to walk and ride to school. Sign up to host a sensor today.
